Create a Handmade Lip Balm

When I formulated my lip balms, I wanted them to reflect the same standards as my soaps and candles: carefully selected ingredients, true performance, and a conscious approach to well-being.
My balms contain natural flavors specifically designed for lip care. Unlike traditional fragrances, these flavorings are formulated for safe use in direct contact with the mouth. They are phthalate-free, paraben-free, and compliant with safety standards applicable to lip products.
Why not simply use essential oils? Because not all essential oils are suitable for application on the lips. The skin there is thinner and more sensitive, and the product may be ingested in small amounts throughout the day. I therefore chose flavors developed specifically for this purpose — delicate, safe, and enjoyable, without compromising quality.
The formula itself is intentionally simple and nourishing: cocoa butter for its protective richness, olive oil for softness, beeswax to create a natural barrier against cold and wind, and vitamin E to support freshness and stability.
My balms melt beautifully on the lips. Their texture is designed to glide smoothly without an overly waxy feel. They nourish without heaviness.
Because they are made primarily with plant butters and oils, they naturally respond to heat. It is best to keep them away from direct sunlight and high temperatures to preserve their texture and integrity.
Finally, they are offered in plastic-free packaging, consistent with my commitment to more sustainable choices.
Commercial Lip Balm vs. Artisanal Lip Balm
Not all lip balms are created the same way.
Commercial lip balms are often formulated to maximize shelf stability, extend shelf life, and reduce production costs. They frequently contain petroleum-derived ingredients such as paraffin or petrolatum, which create an immediate protective sensation but mainly sit on the surface rather than truly nourishing the skin.
An artisanal lip balm, by contrast, relies on raw, plant-based active ingredients. Cocoa butter, botanical oils, and beeswax work in synergy to nourish, soften, and protect the delicate skin of the lips.
It is more sensitive to heat and has a shorter shelf life because it does not contain synthetic preservatives. It is designed to be used, enjoyed, and replenished!
